Hesperides University Launches World’s First Global Master in Bitcoin

Hesperides University today announced the launch of the Master in Bitcoin, the world’s first English-language higher education program solely dedicated to Bitcoin studies, according to a note shared with Bitcoin Magazine. This program represents a significant milestone in recognizing Bitcoin as a serious academic field of study.

Unlike most universities that group Bitcoin with broader ‘crypto’ or ‘blockchain’ programs, Hesperides University has developed a specialized curriculum focused solely on Bitcoin. The program emphasizes Bitcoin’s technology, economics, and societal impact. It aims to benefit professionals, entrepreneurs, and researchers who want a deeper understanding of Bitcoin and its global ecosystem.

“Bitcoin deserves its academic space,” said Kristýna Mazánková, Director of the Master in Bitcoin. She noted that universities have traditionally treated Bitcoin as a secondary topic, lumped with speculative and short-lived trends. The new program positions Bitcoin as a revolutionary technology and a tool for enhancing human freedom, demanding serious academic attention.

The program combines academic rigor with practical experience, providing students the opportunity to examine Bitcoin from perspectives such as monetary theory, philosophy, journalism, energy, cryptography, and economics. Courses will be taught by a global network of educators and professionals actively engaged in the Bitcoin community.

Gabriel Calzada Álvarez, Rector of Hesperides University, remarked that the Master in Bitcoin aligns with the university’s vision of fostering independent education rooted in intellectual freedom. The program aims to create a platform where open minds can research, question, and collaborate on Bitcoin without ideological constraints.

The Master in Bitcoin will begin in January 2026 and is delivered fully online to accommodate working professionals. Enrollment opens early that same year, with early access available through the university’s website. Hesperides University is also inviting educators and Bitcoin experts to join the effort as faculty, mentors, and guest lecturers. Professionals with expertise in economics, finance, journalism, mining, security, and cryptography are encouraged to apply online.

Kristýna Mazánková, the program's director, brings extensive experience from her career in technology and corporate communications, including leadership roles at SatoshiLabs and BTC Inc.
